FAQs

  • The LARC TEST is a post-exercise fitness and health assessment that evaluates your horse’s internal response to training. It measures heart rate, respiratory rate, and lactate levels to detect early signs of fatigue, inflammation, and poor recovery — long before symptoms show up.

  • If your horse isn’t performing consistently, feels off, or you just want to make sure your conditioning plan is working — the LARC TEST helps you identify what’s holding them back and gives you data to make smarter decisions. It’s especially useful for competitive horses or those coming back from rest or injury.

  • Pricing is determined by each Certified Technician, but typically reflects the value of providing deep, science-backed insights into your horse’s health and conditioning.

(You can ask your technician directly when booking!)

  • Not at all. It’s quick and low-stress. A small blood sample is taken. Most horses don’t even flinch.

  • Have your horse ready after a hard effort or competition, and complete a quick online waiver (your technician will send you the link). Both steps are needed before testing can start.

  • The whole test process usually takes about 30 minutes. We take measurements 5 and 20 minutes after the run.

  • The report shows how well your horse is recovering, whether their current workload is appropriate, and if there are signs of early fatigue, pain, inflammation, or potential bleeding. It also includes a suggested conditioning program to optimize recovery and performance.

  • Results are available right away. Your technician will walk you through them and explain what they mean.

  • Your horse’s results are reviewed by Dr. Cecilia Tula, founder of LARC TEST and a specialist in sport horse conditioning. You’ll receive your customized plan a few days after testing, once she finalizes her expert recommendations.

    • After intense runs, jackpots, or workouts

    • Before starting a new training program

    • When performance suddenly drops without a clear reason

    • As a regular fitness and health check-up every 2–4 weeks

LARC TEST isn’t just data. It’s a decision-making tool that helps you protect and improve your horse’s long-term performance and soundness.

  • Yes — while nothing can guarantee no injuries, LARC TEST provides early alerts that allow you to adjust before issues become visible or setbacks. It’s a proactive tool for keeping your horse healthy long-term.

  • Only Certified LARC Technicians can perform the test. They’ve been trained in how to take readings, interpret results, and guide you through the findings with the help of our app and science-backed protocols.
